Our sourdough breads and sweet & savoury pastries are created on-site daily by head baker and owner Cian Mooney and his team. After enriching his craft at esteemed establishments such as Michelin starred Loam, Tivoli Road Bakery, Bread41, and éan, Cian founded Magpie which spread its wings in May of last year.

Nestled between Outset Art & Design Gallery and Ireland’s best-loved independent bookshop Charlie Byrne’s, we’re lucky to be part of a culturally vibrant community in the very heart of Galway city, the Cornstore mall.

We also serve organic, seasonal, and locally roasted specialty coffee from Oughterard based roastery Calendar, so come visit our nook, have a coffee + treat, and enjoy a wander through our musical city.

We love to work with people we like. We source our ingredients from friends and like-minded peers who provide our high-quality, organic, local produce. We believe in supporting local business and in operating our own in an ethical and sustainable way.

FAQ

Is your sourdough vegan friendly?

Yes, all of our sourdough loaves are made from organic flour, salt and water. If our special loaves ever contain non-vegan/vegetarian ingredients, this will be clearly indicated in the name. Our front-of-house team are always happy to answer any specific questions about ingredients/allergens.

Do you offer vegan pastries?

Yes, we bake a selection of vegan pastries every day such as fruit danishes, vegan sausage rolls and vegan cruffins.

Do you offer gluten-free bakes?

We do not currently offer gluten-free items. Our bakery space is very small and we have no way to ensure that there would be no cross-contamination.

What’s a morning bun?

This is probably our number one most asked question! A morning bun is a laminated pastry rolled in cinnamon, sugar and orange zest, filled with vanilla créme patisserie.

What’s a cruffin?

Probably our second most asked question! A cruffin is a croissant in the shape of a muffin, bursting with fillings such as lemon + white chocolate, hibiscus + rose, whipped coffee + milk chocolate ganache, dulce de leche + caramel, chai + créme diplomat etc…etc…
